God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds…
Hebrews 1:1-2
The epistle of Hebrews tells us how God has remarkably revealed Himself at various times and in various ways through various channels. But now in these last days God is revealing Himself through His Son. It is through Jesus that God purposely moves us out of the shadow of the Old Covenant into the glorious light of the New Covenant. This change of covenant changes the way we relate to God and the way we draw near to Him.
The unique and perfect offering of Jesus forever perfected us before God. He has not only made us right with God, but He also enables us to walk right with God. What a comfort it is to know that you are enjoying a privilege that the patriarchs and prophets and potentates of old could only dream of and hope for. While the gospel was a veiled mystery to them, it is now unveiled for your discovery and transformation.
The gospel tells us that you need to do but one thing: learn to rest in Christ and rise to new heights of faith and hope. Because God has enthroned Christ as the appointed heir of all things, He is qualified to receive everything God the Father has for Him—that includes you and I and everyone else as well.
This revelation gives you a reason for much rejoicing. Knowing that you belong to and are in Christ makes your life so much richer and fuller. This is because if you can believe Christ is the appointed heir, then you believe He will also freely give you all things (Romans 8:32). In other words, you don't need to cajole God into doing something He already did for you in Christ. What we need to realise is that God in Christ is always more willing to give than we are willing to ask and receive.
Every crisis is an opportunity to experience Christ that we cannot experience in any other way. When we remind ourselves of who we are to God, we will always find a quiet rest and trust in Him. It will end all doubt and discouragement and fear.
