“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
Matthew 1:23
Are you facing a situation that makes you think God has forgotten or overlooked you?
In the midst of a difficult time when the people of Israel were under the oppressive bondage of their enemies, God told the Prophet Isaiah to encourage the people to look out for a miraculous sign of His deliverance, that is, a virgin-born Saviour whose name is Immanuel.
Years later, Matthew reminded his reader that this prophecy announced in the Old Testament is now an arrived reality in the New Testament. Jesus is that promised Deliverer who came to save not only the children of Israel, but peoples of every tribe, nation and tongue. In other words, the story of Jesus’ first coming assures us that God will never ever leave or forsake us.
How does God demonstrate He is always with us?
The birth of the Christ Child reveals God loves us more than we can ever imagine. This is because Jesus, who is God, became one of us so as to love and live with us and teach us how to love and live with God. Then, it is through the giving of His life to us, Jesus now lives in and through us. His abiding presence and power enables us to live each day to will and to act according to what pleases Him (Philippians 2:13).
It is comforting to know Jesus as your “Immanuel”.
Make this God-given revelation a personal truth for you to stand in— especially if you are in a season of feeling uncertainty, fear and powerlessness. Remember, no amount of worrying or sleepless nights will stop the bad things from happening. They simply just stop you from enjoying the good God who gives sleep to those He loves.
Don’t make the mistake of letting circumstances affect how you feel God sees you. If left unchecked, feelings will often cause you to take your eyes off Jesus and rob you of faith and hope. Look unto Jesus for He will surely direct your steps and order your path.
