Now all of us, with our faces unveiled, reflect the glory of the Lord as if we are mirrors; and so, we are being transformed, metamorphosed, into His same image from one radiance of glory to another, just as the Spirit of the Lord accomplishes it.

2 Corinthians 3:18 (Voice)

Sometimes we get the impression that we need to change to be loved and accepted by God. This, however, is not the gospel. Change happens not because of our feeble attempts to earn God's favour, but because God loves and accepts us through Christ.

Not desiring or rejecting change reveals an orphan spirit that rejects God's love and sovereign grace. This detached mindset and thinking sees change as a way of satisfying a demanding God, rather than an offering of love from our perfect and righteous Father in heaven. It is impossible to enjoy a relationship with God without being made new by the power of God.

We change and can change because God's Spirit transforms us from the inside out. Because we are His children, change means becoming more like our Father’s Beloved Son. In this way, our yearning for transformation echoes what God has already declared about us in Christ.

Trying to change without looking to Jesus as the author and perfector of our faith deprives us of the true source and strength that can transform our lives. But when we rest on the supernatural working of His Spirit in us, He will increasingly shape our character and attitudes to be more like Him. Then our worship, service and prayers become bold, strong, and healthy—because we are becoming who God has called us to be and do.
