They continued steadily learning the teaching of the apostles, and joined in their fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayer.
Acts 2:42 (Phillips)
What does the church mean to you these days?
The church is more than merely a building or an organisation. The church is intended to be a family in which we are united as a community of children, regardless of our social, ethnic, or economic backgrounds.
Since Jesus has broken down all barriers and brought us together in Himself, we have become the embodiment and expression of His love for one another and everyone else. As we become more like Christ, we will reflect the reality of who He is to one another in all we say and do.
Luke describes the church as a group of people who have relationships with one another and with God. It is about sharing life experiences and growing deep friendships. A church never exists for itself, but rather as a beacon of God's love, welcoming all who are lost, far from God, and long to return home. Some believers do not feel as if they belong to a church. Perhaps I am describing you right now, but you do not have to stay that way.
Most people leave church because of an offence. As a result, they abandon their call and community rather than discussing their feelings and addressing any issues. Being part of a church community involves unlearning selfishness and individualism while. also learning to love selflessly. It is more than a skill; it is a way of life and an attitude of life.
In the Bible, the early church had a strong sense of community based on loving and intentional relationships. This included devoting time and resources, as well as having a genuine concern for each other's lives and well-being. Isn’t that a wonderful thing? Similarly, we must discover and practice community with one other—because of who we are and whose we are in Christ.
