For by grace, you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:8-10 (ESV)

We are brought into relationship with Christ so that we can help others find the same relationship with Him. As we share the gospel with those around us, we allow God to move as He wills. We must let God speak through us as we engage intellectually with others, so that we communicate not just to their minds but also to their hearts. Thus, a kind word, or a helping hand can sometimes be more effective than the depth of our biblical or spiritual knowledge.

Knowing that we were created in Christ to do good works, we must remain faithful and fruitful as we follow Him. Our good works are fruits which Christ bears in and through us because we are firmly rooted in Him.

When we are hesitant to do good because we feel inadequate or intimidated, we need to hear the gospel again. Our frailty and weakness cannot be compared to the all-encompassing power of Christ's presence dwelling within us. The wonderful thing is that God has already appointed and equipped us in advance to do His will.

As we avail ourselves and partner with His Spirit, we will come to realise that our good works are an integral part of God's eternal plan of salvation. So, when we seek to do good, we give others the opportunity to see God's goodness through our words and actions. It may be hard work at times, but do not get tired of doing good because we shall see all the blessings God will bring in due season. (Galatians 6:9).
