After Jesus was born, some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem. They asked, “Where is the baby who was born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east. We came to worship him.” When King Herod heard about this new king of the Jews, he was troubled. And all the people in Jerusalem were worried too. Herod called a meeting of all the leading priests and teachers of the law. He asked them where the Christ would be born. They answered, “In the town of Bethlehem in Judea. The prophet wrote about this in the Scriptures.

Some people can learn about God by observing creation, while others have the Scripture but do not seek Him. This contrast can be seen in the wise men who set out to locate the newborn King after sighting the star, and the religious leaders who knew from Scripture where the Messiah was but chose not to look for Him.

God reveals Himself through both creation and scripture.

While creation shows us His greatness, His Scripture shows His holiness. Both are the two hands of God at work. They do not contradict each another, but rather reveal the full story of His redemptive plan for humanity. Choosing to find and follow the fingerprints of God will fill us with wonder, love, and praise. This is because the general revelation of creation will lead us to the special revelation of scripture, which contains the supernatural revelation of God’s Son, Jesus.

Reflecting on the beauty of creation and Scripture will strengthen your faith. You will learn to trust that He who feeds the sparrow will also meet your needs. Trust leads to wisdom and wisdom leads to worship. And that was what the wise men did.
