No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.
1 John 3:6 (ESV)
Remember that you are not sinless like Jesus, but you are perfected through Jesus to overcome every sinful habit in your life. God provides for your victory over sin by granting you a new nature in which all of God lives within you (Colossians 2:9) and works to transform you.
This new nature is not added to your old nature. It is a completely new life infused with Christ's abiding presence. While we no longer have a sinful nature, we still have sinful habits. Renewing your mind to the truth of your new nature (of who you are and have in Christ) can help you make positive changes in your life. You cannot rehabilitate or reform your old sinful nature. You must die with Christ and then be raised with Him for you to experience the transformative power of your new nature.
The new nature is created in the image and likeness of God in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4:24). As a true son and daughter of our most gracious and loving Father, you will no longer allow your fleshy desire to satisfy its sinful lusts. This is due to the Holy Spirit living in you, helping you in winning every battle of the flesh.
If you feel condemned because you cannot seem to keep sinful habits out of your life, God says there is no condemnation for those who follow Christ. (Romans 8:1.) Rather, He sends the Holy Spirit to comfort you and give you the grace and power to resist temptation and avoid sin. Walk in the truth of who you are and what you have in Christ, and the truth will set you free.
