Jesus told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest. Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.

Luke 10:2-3 (ESV)

We are called to use our gifts and graces to build the community of believers and transform the world. Again, we are reminded that the church is not a building, but a people of God on the move.

Our missiology informs our ecclesiology.

Who we want to reach shapes how we do church. Being changed ourselves by His Spirit, we become agents of change and hope in a broken world filled with broken people. We are to rise above the rejection and nastiness and radiate God’s perfect love wherever we go. Unfortunately, many churches today are preaching centres and not equipping hubs. We are more concerned with maintaining the status quo of our traditions than responding to the cries of those who need to hear the gospel the most.

We must shift our definition of a good church from how many people sit in the pews on Sundays to how many disciples are raised and sent out to make more disciples. It is learning to be courageous and loving in proclaiming the good news of Jesus and walking alongside those who come our way.

Jesus calls us labourers, not just labourers, but labourers together with God (cf. 1 Corinthians 3:9). We are truly His children when we do and say what the Father has commanded. We will not only be fruitful through His grace, but we will be fulfilled by His goodness.
