It is the LORD who goes before you; he will be with you and will never fail you or forsake you. So do not fear or be dismayed.

Deuteronomy 31:8

Have you ever reached a point where you can’t feel God?

Mother Teresa lamented her own spiritual crises in one of her letters, over the nearly 50 years she had gone without experiencing God's presence in her heart. This is really unexpected, especially considering that her work for the underprivileged was inspired by her trust in God. Instead of passing judgement on her, we ought to grow our knowledge of what it means to experience God's presence.

The truth is, even if you don't sense God, He is still there. We may be sure of God's ongoing presence in our daily lives because we know He won't forsake or forget us. The best thing to do is to keep praising, praying and trusting God. Never, ever consider yourself to be acting hypocritically. Being aware of your lack of desire for God while still yearning for Him is not hypocritical. Hypocrisy is acting in a way that is intended to impress people while hiding your actual feelings towards God.

Walk by faith, and not by sight.

You don't know all that is to know about God.

The disciples were furious with Jesus because they were about to sink and He was sound asleep in the midst of the storm. They failed to realise the Lord was in the same boat as them but had a very different perspective. Although they might not feel it, Jesus demonstrates His concern for them by saving them during a storm rather than by protecting them from it.

Keep in mind that God is always trustworthy even when you can’t see His hands or feel His heart. No matter how weighed down you feel inside, move your focus from the negative but to God's faithfulness. Begin today to sing this old hymn and remember who you are to Jesus.

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,

Look full in His wonderful face,

And the things of the earth

Will grow strangely dim,

In the light of His glory and grace.”
