And [Joseph] called His name Jesus.
Matthew 1:25
What does “Jesus” mean?
His name literally means "God is salvation". This is appropriate since Jesus came to save us from our sin and in doing so He opened a new and acceptable way for us to enjoy a healthy relationship with God.
Sin can never disqualify you from God's grace.
The good news is, Jesus did not come to condemn us or our world, but He came to convict us that our sin cannot diminish God's love for us. Yet, somehow many believers are more sin-conscious than grace-conscious. This explains why they would rather make self-righteous attempts to earn God's grace than believe God has actually given us everything we need for living a godly life in Christ. By saving us from our sin, Jesus has already empowered us to live a lifestyle free from sin.
Sinners will find no rest. This is because sin has such a voracious appetite that cannot be sated. The more you feed sin, the more it craves and grows. God saves us from the tyranny of sin by making all of us new creations in Christ, and through His work of grace within us, we were saved from the impossible task of ever satisfying our sinful yearnings.
As we gear towards Christmas, it is worth remembering why Jesus, being God, took on human flesh. The Apostle Paul tells us, “God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself” (2 Corinthians 5:9) and He does it by making salvation, forgiveness and eternal life possible through Jesus Christ.
Indeed, we must look to Jesus alone for our salvation and trust in Him who is able to save to the uttermost. Only then will we experience freedom—freedom from sin, freedom to love God, freedom for righteous living.
This freedom is freely given and is freely received. There should be no reason for anyone to qualify themselves because God has already qualified everyone through Christ for salvation. God will not only save us but He will secure and sustain our salvation forever.
