The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

Luke 17:5-6 (ESV)

The apostles learn their need for spiritual empowerment as they closely follow Jesus. This prompted them to ask Him to strengthen their faith. Jesus fulfilled their heartfelt desire by teaching them many faith lessons, leading them to do many amazing things alongside Him.

Like them, much of what we need we gain along the way. Jesus will not deny us the faith we need when we pray and believe Him. But so often, we become restless when we face problems too big for us to manage. We rather worry than pray. Thus, we settle for less by trying to solve things on our own, which results in us losing our faith and trust in God.

Praying for faith is the right and privilege of every believer in Christ. It is not reserved only for those in ministry or leadership. Therefore, we don’t stand idly or wait aimlessly, but pray without ceasing until God comes through for us.

We cannot do the impossible, but we can commit to doing the possible, which is to pray. Little is gained by worrying. But much can be accomplished by praying. Praying is about orienting our hearts towards God and His perfect purposes. In other words, faith comes from hearing what the Father says and resting in His promises that He will not fail us. In spite of the circumstances, we pray and remain steadfast in God, trusting Him to carry us forward into our new season of life.
