The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
Acts 1:1-4 (NKJV)
Believing in Christ’s resurrection goes beyond the facts to the implications for our salvation and participation in the life of God.
According to Luke, Jesus appeared alive to His apostles for forty days after His resurrection. During that time, He demonstrated the truth of His resurrection with many indisputable and infallible proofs, revealing and recounting how His triumphant victory over all the Enemy's works is a visible sign that God's indestructible kingdom has arrived. Jesus will soon commission them to proclaim the gospel of His Kingdom, giving them authority and ability to make disciples of all nations.
Everywhere the apostles went, they were witnesses to the truth of the resurrection, and the word they preached was constantly confirmed with signs, miracles, and wonders (Mark 16:20). Like them, we are called to testify to the power of the resurrection of our Saviour. We are not supposed to do it by ourselves. We do it by partnering with Jesus so that our ability and capacity to impact lives is directly related to the power of His resurrection life working within and through us (cf. Romans 15:18-19; 1 Corinthians 2:4; 2 Corinthians 13:4; Ephesians 3:7).
Our confident in the Lord enables us to act and speak boldly and fearlessly.
Learn to trust God to work powerfully through our vulnerabilities and imperfections. As long as we stay humble and focused on Jesus, we will receive God's increasing grace through His Spirit to be faithful and fruitful in our witnessing.
