Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers... As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.

Acts 13:1-3 (NKJV)

Are you in a church community that recognises and respects God's call on your life and will work to help you fulfil it? Or are you in a church community that simply wants you to maintain the status quo and not make any major changes in your life?

Sadly, many believers simply go through the motions of church attendance and activities out of habit or obligation. This is not the normal Christian life. The Acts of the Apostles demonstrate the limitless opportunities and possibilities we can accomplish for the Kingdom if we simply partner with the Holy Spirit and the people God has placed in our lives.

Do not be afraid to share your vision for where and how God is leading you with others who have been a part of your faith journey. Allow them to ask honest and helpful questions and pray with them that God would use you according to His plan.

Consider the relationship of Barnabas and Paul with their church.

Even though Barnabas and Saul felt it was God's will for them to become missionaries, they did not set out on their own. Both also gave their leaders time to hear from God and confirm with Him before sending them out to proclaim the gospel to the Gentiles. They could not have accomplished as much without the support and encouragement of their church community in Antioch.

Just as hearing God's voice in your life is crucial, so is having godly leaders and a supportive church community to walk alongside you and help you determine God's next assignment for your life. This triage of God's unique call, your personal obedience, and your communal relationships will safeguard your calling and purpose in life.
