Tell Archippus: “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.”

Colossians 4:17 (NIV)

Despite having been called by God, many people, like "Archippus," find it difficult to carry out their vocation and ministry. The issue is never about a person’s gifts or abilities. Perhaps, it is about being overlooked and not given the opportunity to reach their full potential. Thus, they would rather stay hidden or forgotten than to act boldly in faith.

When church becomes a destination, it becomes a means to an end, which eventually results in lost vision, frustration and disconnection. Instead, collectively spurring one another on to love and good works should be the focus of every church community.

The Colossians did well by following the advice of the Apostle Paul. We read in Philemon 1:2 where Paul refers to Archippus as a "fellow soldier" who is faithfully carrying out his ministry. All too often, we overlook how crucial it is to encourage one another as we seek God's will and purpose for our lives. When there is a kind of evasive silence and lack of support, we become spiritually poorer and less willing to attempt new things for God.

When was the last time you boldly shared about what God has revealed to you about His plan for you? When was the last time you sow into the dream or vision of another person? When was the last time your community rejoiced together over someone answering God's call? Your answers show the part you play in your community and the part your community plays in your life.
