Once again Jesus spoke to the people. This time he said, “I am the light for the world! Follow me, and you won’t be walking in the dark. You will have the light that gives life.”
John 8:12 (CEV)
Jesus extends an amazing invitation with a gracious promise: whoever follows Him will not walk in darkness. Darkness is not sin; however, it can lead to sin and cause you to lose your way. In the context of John's gospel, darkness refers to struggling and stumbling through our own personal world without the light of the gospel.
When people lack the light that illuminates the way to God, they will settle for less than who they were designed to be. Why do you think there are so many people who appear to be happy but are hurting on the inside? Their lives will not get better if they continue to live in the shadows. Instead, their lives will become increasingly depressing and hopeless, and the worst part is that they will be unaware of it.
Be a light for God, shining brightly for His glory.
Since we have Christ's love and life in us, let us spread the truth to those who do not know it. If they could only see Jesus for who He truly is, His light and life would begin to transform them in the deepest and darkest parts of their hearts.
What is God saying to me here and what must I do?
