In Christ, you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Ephesians 2:22 (ESV)
The Trinity defines the framework of the mission and ministry of the church and believers.
It is through God’s perfect work of reconciliation that we have been called and chosen to participate in Christ’s ministry to the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit for the benefit of the world. This missional call demonstrates how loving and relational God is. He reveals His divine life of eternal love by creating the world and bringing the world to a saving knowledge of His love manifested in grace, which enables us to have a close and intimate relationship with Him.
Ephesians 1 beautifully captures how each person of the Trinity has a particular role and work in salvation.
God the Father predestines everyone for salvation and the Son purchases our salvation through His redeeming work on the cross, and the Holy Spirit preserves our salvation by living in us as a guarantee that God will complete his salvific work in our lives. By graciously sharing His life and love with us in our union with Christ through the Spirit, we are collectively and corporately being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit.
The church as the dwelling place of God is more than a physical structure, a particular denomination, or a hierarchical religious body. Rather it is the whole people of God engaging in the whole work of God. The whole work of God is to believe in Jesus whom God has sent (John 6:29) and we are invited to go and share this good news with all people of all nations. In other words, the church is never ever static or status quo but a movement because we serve a God who is continually moving and doing something in the lives of people.
We have been given the privilege of being part of what God is doing and to see Him at work.
Both mission and ministry are God’s means of revealing His nature and character of perfect love. This is why the best way for the world to see Jesus through us is to walk in love with God and one another. Because we already embody God's love in its entirety and fullness, we are able to show that overflowing love to others in many ways.
