Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8 (AJKV)
As you learn to live in accordance with the truth of your new identity in Christ, the Holy Spirit who dwells within propel you into new ways of thinking, speaking, and acting. It is about learning to live life as God sees it and deliberately walking in the truth of who you and what you have in Christ.
Focusing on Jesus and fixing your thoughts on Him frees us from a self-defeating mindset and negative emotions. While you cannot stop bad things from happening, you can safeguard your heart from becoming cynical, cold and pessimistic.
Instead of reacting to life, learn to respond with the revelation that nothing can separate you from God’s perfect love and providence. Rather, align your heart to God’s heart for you even before you experience a concrete change in your circumstance or an answer to your prayer. With God’s help, you can choose to think well and grow healthy thoughts.
If you are held captive by bad thoughts and bad feelings, pray and meditate on what is true, good and beautiful in the gospel and know that they are already yours because of Jesus. The more you think about the good things God has freely given in Christ, the more you thrive in spiritual freedom and well-being.
When your mind is constantly focus on Jesus, no storms of adversity or sorrow can rob you of your joy, peace and rest. According to the Apostle Paul, we are to make it a habit to give thanks and express gratitude for everything that God has blessed us and continue to bless us. Gratitude expands joy and deepens faith. It increases your capacity to receive more and live more fully in Christ.
