For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
Our relationship with God is built on faith, which He bestows as a gift. We can be confident that God loves us in such an eternal and wonderful way that nothing can separate us from Him. If our understanding of the gospel makes us feel anxious and constantly on edge, we are not hearing it correctly.
If our relationship with God is one of fear — we will become afraid and restless. That fear will cause us to retreat and hide from God. This will paralyse our faith and render us ineffective as followers of Jesus.
Fear does not come from God. It comes from failing to meet unrealistic expectations. The truth is that none of us can live up to God's absolute and perfect standard. However, God provided us a way of perfect righteousness through His Beloved Son. Jesus fully fulfilled all of God's holy standards, ensuring that our relationship with Him is unconditional and secure for all eternity.
You are set free from the clutches of guilt and condemnation when you have a firm grasp on the truth of the gospel. Then you can move forward in your faith by resting in the Spirit who dwells within you to walk with power, love, and a sound mind.
We all must deal with fear at some point in our lives. Even though fear is a natural human emotion, learn to lean on God's perfect love, which has the power to remove your fear. God will help you conquer anything that tries to defeat you. It is not about being fearless, but about receiving the courage and confidence to overcome any challenge with faith.
