No one who is born of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, because God’s seed [His principle of life, the essence of His righteous character] remains [permanently] in him [who is born again—who is reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose]; and he [who is born again] cannot habitually [live a life characterized by] sin, because he is born of God and longs to please Him.
1 John 3:9 (AMP)
We cannot be born again and continue to sin.
As new creations in Christ, born of the Spirit, and empowered by the Spirit, we have been given a new nature that sets us free from sin's enslavement. This does not mean that we will never sin again. Rather, we will not allow ourselves to live a life of habitual sin. Knowing that we are born of God, we rely on the power of the Spirit who dwells within us to overcome every sinful habit.
Learn to value what Christ has done for you and walk in the truth and reality of who you are in Him. Trust Him to enable you to live a consistently righteous life. It is through this continuing renewing of your mind that you understand and experience the victory Christ won for you. Then you will learn to continually receive His grace to vigorously resist and conquer any temptation you face.
The spiritual battles may be overwhelming, but remember Jesus already won the ultimate victory. Just take each step-in faith, knowing that He is leading and guiding you every day to become more as a child of God.
What is God saying to me here and what must I do?
