For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:6-8 (ESV)

God did not wait till we were ready before saving us. The Apostle Paul says God reveals and proves His Father's love for us by sending Jesus to save us when we were still sinners and enemies of God.

We are sinners, not because we sin. Rather, we are sinners because we fall short of God's glorious standard of perfect righteousness (Romans 3:23). Sin caused us to lose our way and hence, we become enemies in our mind towards God, rebelling against His love in our thoughts and actions.

God’s heart for us was established before the foundation of the earth; it is Christ’s death that turns our hearts towards God. God gives us the faith to believe in the first place, thus this “heart change” or salvation is a gift from Him.

Since Christ has perfectly reconciled us to God, nothing can keep us or anyone else from being saved. To be reconciled means that God does not hold our sins against us anymore. Rather, we have been forgiven of our sins and unrighteousness. Whatever animosity or enmity between us and God has been forever removed in Christ.

All the work has already been done by Christ to secure and guarantee our salvation. This means no one is beyond salvation. Our appeal is for everyone to repent and receive God's gift of salvation in Christ Jesus. This opens the way for His Spirit’s abiding presence to dwell in us so that we can walk in harmony with our Father God and please Him in all things.
