So, we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.

2 Corinthians 4:16 (ESV)

In 2 Corinthians 4, the Apostle Paul described the trials and tribulations he endured while preaching the gospel. Despite his physical exhaustion, he had the spiritual strength to face all the challenges with hope and courage. This is because he has learned to prioritise his life and prepare for his death when it comes to serve his Saviour and Lord.

Unfortunately, many of us are unprepared for life’s trials, and how we respond to them reflects our faith in God. We have grown so comfortable, even complacent, that our relationship with God has become too casual and shallow. So, when difficult times arise—and they will (cf. Matthew 7:25), we are easily shaken and troubled by the circumstances.

We can learn from Paul’s example during those times when we need God the most. Instead of giving up or falling apart, we must focus on God and allow Him to be our only source of strength and help. God will sometimes spare us from the storm, and sometimes God will stay with us through the storm.

Daily renewal through the Spirit can help us in accepting our mortality and our limitations. Then we can learn to be content with what we have and take advantage of every opportunity to share God's love and grace with others.

What is God saying to me here and what must I do?
