The Word became flesh and tabernacled among us. We looked upon His glory, the glory of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14 (TLV)
The Incarnation is the beautiful mystery of the Word made Flesh.
Jesus came to reveal God to us. This is because, throughout the ages, most people have had an imperfect idea of who God is and how He desires to relate to us. That inadequacy impacts how we perceive God and present Him to others. If we believe God is an angry God, we will constantly feel unworthy and be plagued by thoughts of condemnation. Then we would be judgemental and dismissive of others because we are projecting our own feelings about God on them.
Jesus came to complete our understanding of God and our relationship with Him. Keep in mind that Jesus came not to save us from an angry God, but to reveal a perfectly loving Father. Knowing God is love, we can be confident that He is neither vindictive nor wrathful towards us. God's wrath, after all, was fully satisfied on the cross of Jesus because God fully accepted Jesus’ atoning sacrifice for our sins.
God's wrath is not an uncontrollable blind divine fury, but rather the result of His holy love, making it a righteous and just anger, not against us, but against sin. Without the Incarnation, we would not have known or understood how perfectly God loved us in Christ. When we learn to appreciate the truth of God’s love, the gospel comes alive, and we discover a whole new way of loving and living.
