The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, the glory as the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14 (MEV)

The Christmas story tells how God became like us in the person of Jesus Christ. This is referred to as the Incarnation, in which Jesus the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. He became a real man, had a real birth, a real life, and a real death.

It is amazing to think about how Jesus was conceived in Mary's womb. In the Old Testament, people were struck dead simply for touching the Ark of the Covenant, but Mary carried God in her womb, paving the way for Christ to enter and work in us by His Spirit.

Despite being God's only begotten and eternal Son, Jesus appeared as a helpless baby, uniting Himself with our humanity. Thus, Jesus thoroughly felt and understood every human experience and condition. He not only recognised our sinful pain, but He would embrace it and vanquish it with His victory.

Jesus identifies and sympathises with us.

His story is in our story.

While we continue to struggle and suffer as we await His complete and final victory over sin and its greater power, death — we can now enjoy the blessings and privileges of His atonement.

Let us find comfort in knowing that we have a Saviour who has gone before us and will stay with us through life's tests and trials. This gives us the confidence and courage to pray and expect favourable answers without fear of disappointment.
