“I will not leave you orphans.”
John 14:18 (NKJV)
Believers who cannot relate to God as a "Father" often suffer from an orphan spirit. They will struggle to trust God and believe in His purpose for their lives. They are plagued by feelings of rejection and abandonment because they lack a genuine understanding of God's love.
In battling against an identity issue, they become self-centred, incapable of forming long-term and healthy relationships, and are typically spiritually immature and emotionally stunted. They are easily offended and struggle to admit fault, ask for forgiveness, or accept correction from others. They are constantly fighting over trivial matters to determine their sense of worth, driven by a desire for recognition. In short, an orphan has a restless spirit.
Jesus came to reveal the Father to us while also reconciling us to Him. In Christ, you have found your way home. You are now part of the family. You are no longer an orphan, but a child. Regardless of how you feel about yourself right now, rest in your Father God's unwavering love.
An orphan cannot rest because he or she relies on his or her performance to earn God's favour. A child can rest because he or she is confident in his or her ability to experience God's favour.
Denying God, the joy of becoming your Father means denying yourself the joy of becoming His child. Do not miss out on this good news. When you know who God is, He will reveal who you are in Him.
