Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
1 Corinthians 1:26-30 New International Version
Don’t fear your weaknesses—God isn't.
Never presume God cannot call you or use you because of your past or because you feel you are not qualified or talented enough. In fact, the Apostle Paul tells us that God chooses us to reveal the mystery of the gospel, not because of our strength but because of our weakness.
None of us wants to feel weak but our weakness in God's hands is strength.
Many times we think God only uses people of significant status and reputation and influence. The kingdom of God however is counterculture and goes against the current. The Bible is full of stories of God uses ordinary people in extraordinary ways.
After all, God gives grace to the humble so that His glory can be magnified in and through them. If we ever hold ourselves back from loving and serving God, it is not because we lack talents or skills but because we lack humility to obey God.
We must never underestimate the power of God within us. A feeble faith in an Almighty God will produce far more and greater fruits than one with abilities but without humility. This is because Christ is able to meet all of our needs when He calls us to follow Him.
Consider Paul and Peter. Paul who was raised strictly kosher and Jewish was not allowed to associate food or friendship that might be ritually impure. Yet Jesus called him out of weakness to reach the Gentiles. Peter, on the other hand, was called to reach the Jews although he was not well-educated in the law or into ritual cleansing.
The lesson we have to learn is God never lets our personality profiles or our culture preferences and even our dislike for certain people get into the way of His purpose. It is about being humble enough to obey and trust God and partner Him in kingdom building.
