For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 1:5-8 (NIV)
The Apostle Peter exhorts believers to make every effort to incorporate the goodness and qualities of Jesus into their faith because they share in His divine nature.
God wants us to be like His Son Jesus, and His Spirit works within us to transform our attitude, emotion and behaviour to reflect Christlikeness. If we cultivate the same desire as God, we will have everything we need to live a godly life. While you may not understand all of His ways, you can be sure of one thing. All the twists and turns of life cannot keep God from accomplishing His purpose for us to be like Christ and glorify Him in all things.
If we continue to grow in the qualities and character of Christ, all of our actions and words will demonstrate that we know and believe in Jesus. How do we make every effort to maintain the momentum in our spiritual life? It is to pursue a deeper understanding of your life in Christ and learn to walk in the revelation of who you are and what you have in Christ.
Open your heart in full surrender to Jesus who is the author and finisher of your faith.
It is a life-long process that involves ever-increasing trust and obedience. This life with Jesus isn't always easy, smooth or straightforward. It can be messy and painful, but it can also be powerful and life-changing. But if you keep following Jesus, He will lead and guide you to live victoriously. You will receive the fullness of His power to live for Jesus as He reigns in you and lives through you. The amazing blessing of being a child of God is then yours to enjoy. That is, when you walk and act with faith in Christ, you are set free from the worry of ever disappointing God or failing Him.
