The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.
Luke 10:2 (ESV)
If proclaiming and heralding Christ is not at the centre of our Christian life, we must question what we really believe about the gospel and, more specifically, about what being a disciple entails.
When Jesus urges us to pray for more labourers to harvest His fields, He was not giving us a difficult assignment, but rather an extreme good work. This is because, as the Lord of the harvest, Jesus invites us to join Him in bringing in the sheaves.
How do you get started in the first place?
One practical thing you can do is to set your watch alarm to 10:02 either in the morning or at night to remind you that there is a harvest waiting to be brought in and to earnestly pray to Jesus for more labourers to go and reap the harvest.
Never underestimate prayer.
One simple prayer can do far more than all of our combined human efforts.
You become co-labourer with Christ when you learn how to believe Him and learn how to do His will whenever and wherever He shows you. The results are up to Him. You are simply called to be faithful and obedient.
One blessing of praying such a prayer on behalf of a broken and lost world is that your heart will be kindled with compassion and conviction over and again. This will give you such an incredible love for people.
Another blessing is that praying slows down the work of the devil and speeds up the work of God. After Jesus cast out a legion of demons from one man in the Decapolis region, many people in that area heard about Jesus and followed Him. They were spiritually, physically, and emotionally healed after responding to the good news of God's salvation and God’s kingdom.
May you see and experience great things of the Lord in the days to come.
