Let every employee listen well and follow the instructions of their employer, not just when their employers are watching, and not in pretence, but faithful in all things. For we are to live our lives with pure hearts in the constant awe and wonder of our Lord God. Put your heart and soul into every activity you do, as though you are doing it for the Lord himself and not merely for others. For we know that we will receive a reward, an inheritance from the Lord, as we serve the Lord Yahweh, the Anointed One!
Colossians 3:22-24 (TPT)
Worship and work were never intended to be separate entities.
According to Scripture, worship and work were always inextricably linked during a priest's service. They worship while working and work while worshipping. Similarly, as priests to God, we do not work only for the sake of working since doing so would turn work into a curse. Work is a blessing from God because He designed us in Christ to be productive and fruitful in all that we do.
Our work is not just to grow the economy, but also to increase the awareness of God's presence and engagement in the lives of people we encounter with every day. When we prioritise our holy calling as priests in Christ Jesus after the order of Melchizedek, we are built up as His chosen vessels to conduct His prophetic purposes.
The Kingdom is embedded in the marketplace. It is not confined to the four walls of the church but is active in all spheres of influence. As we worship and work as God’s royal priests in this world, we seek to see His Kingdom come, His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
If you consider your work as an act of worship, others will see the One you worship. It is crucial that you do not use your working hours evangelising or sharing the faith with others. That makes you an amazing witness but a poor worker. Rather, simply learn to genuinely care for your coworkers, to pray for them as you grow to know them, and to be willing to express your faith whenever the occasion arises.
