The first man was named Adam, and the Scriptures tell us that he was a living person. But Jesus, who may be called the last Adam, is a life-giving spirit.
1 Corinthians 15:45 (CEV)
The gospel is not about making a bad person good. It is about making a spiritually dead person alive. We are all dead in trespasses and sins. But God, in His rich mercy and great love, made us alive in Christ. By the power of His resurrection, Jesus brings our spiritually dead selves to life eternal through His “life-giving” Spirit.
The term "quickening" is often used to describe this unique life-giving Spirit of Christ in a believer. His Spirit living in us quickens us to live for God. Being made righteous by grace through faith enables us to live righteously for the will and pleasure of God. This is because God is working within you to carry out His will, and He gives you the ability to do so.
Set your heart to live your life in accordance with God's will for you in Christ as His Spirit produces fruit in us. The Trinity has already provided everything for you to live in Christlike righteousness, authority and power. It is about believing and living it. When we live and love in accordance with the truth, we cannot help but please God.
So often, when we want to please God, we rather keep a list of pious rules rather than trust in His goodness and grace. It is fine to practise godly habits, but they cannot replace a personal relationship with Jesus.
Understanding your life in Christ is essential for your spiritual growth and health. Your identity is shaped by being united in Christ and submitting to His Spirit. The more your identity is rooted in Christ, the more fruitful you become.
