So when the name of Jesus is spoken, everyone in heaven and on earth and under the earth will bow down before Him. And every tongue will say Jesus Christ is Lord. Everyone will give honour to God the Father.

Philippians 2:10-11 (NLV)

Being a Christian is not just about believing in Jesus but also following Him.

Every area of our lives is to be completely under the authority and lordship of Christ. We have the ability to live a holy life when our will and desire are united with His by faith. Then we can live in obedience and discover the true purpose of our identity in Christ.

Jesus is not only Saviour, but He is also Lord.

We like the first part, but we somehow forget the second part.

Jesus saves us from ourselves, and He saves us for Himself. The picture of our union in Christ is a marriage, where He is identified as the Bridegroom and we are His Bride. In his letter to the Philippians, the Apostle Paul tells us that Jesus became our Lord as a result of His self-sacrificing love for us. Because of what He has done for us, we are willing to surrender our rights and humble ourselves before the Lord.

Without humility, we cannot love or serve Jesus well. We will always put ourselves first and live a life where we do whatever we want to do. Such a way of living is not freedom, but bondage. But when we recover His lordship for our lives, we will experience a profound shift from loving the world to loving God.

Jesus not only saves us from sin, but He also set us apart for His divine purpose.

When we have an intimate awareness of His presence in us, we will experience His power working through us. The longer we walk with Jesus and the more we submit ourselves to His leading, the easier it is to trust and follow Him.

How are you following Jesus today?
