For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
Romans 1:16-17 (ESV)
God made the gospel simple to understand, but most people fail to grasp it.
According to the Apostle Paul, the gospel demonstrates God's righteousness by saving us from our sins and giving us new life in Christ. In other words, the simplicity of the gospel is based on Christ's finished work.
A life lived in the simplicity of the gospel is based on Christ's full righteousness, which makes us righteous and holy. Your salvation is eternally secure because of your union with Christ, not because of anything you have done. Furthermore, this union with Christ grants you access to all the blessings and benefits of salvation.
What a wonderful salvation we have as God's children. We have everything in Christ to live a godly and holy life. Jesus is the source and strength of our justification and sanctification. He not only makes us right with God, but He also teaches us how to live right before Him.
Our desire and pursuit of holiness is not a feeble attempt to please God.
Rather, knowing that our Father is beyond pleased with us, we choose to live holy lives to honour Him as His children. In doing so, we reflect on and reveal the truth that we have been made holy—not because of our actions, but because of who we are and what we have in Christ. As a result, there is no room for mediocrity or complacency in the way we live and serve God. This is because we are united with Christ, and our being and actions are deeply rooted in Him and only Him.
