This mystery has been kept in the dark for a long time, but now it’s out in the open. God wanted everyone, not just Jews, to know this rich and glorious secret inside and out, regardless of their background, regardless of their religious standing. The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message.
Colossians 1:26-27 The Message
The heart of the Christian life is to know who Jesus Christ is and who you are in Him. Whether you are a new believer or a mature Christian, your relationship with Him is centred firmly on the revelation of Him.
The Greek word for "revelation" is apokalypto. It means the unveiling of something that is true and already available. The Apostle Paul reveals how the gospel was a perfect mystery hidden right from the beginning of creation and through history until the fullness of time. Then, out of God's good pleasure and grace, He finally and fully chooses to unveil the gospel of the Person of His Beloved Son.
The word "gospel" literally means "God's Story". Our stories are connected within the framework of God's story of salvation and Christ is the connect point between God and us. Paul is persistently emphatic that the gospel he preaches did not originate from him, but it is a result of the divine revelation of God. This is why he repeatedly uses the phrase "the gospel of Jesus Christ" to highlight that every revelation he received came directly from Christ Himself.
The unveiling of Jesus is the revealing of God's love.
It is through the gospel of Jesus Christ that God reveals the deepest thoughts of His heart and mind about you. God loves you with such a love that is so profound, so perfect and so complete that nothing can ever separate you from Him. The more you grow in the revelation of God's love for you, the more you mature in faith and obedience towards God.
The sad truth is that many Christians have a shallow knowledge of the gospel. They know just enough to be informed, but not enough to be transformed. This explains why they are immature and easily swayed by all sorts of spiritual fads and fallacies.
We should never feel tired of hearing the gospel. Rather we should endeavour to experience the reality of the gospel in its simplicity and amazing power every day.
