Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8 (AJKV)
Focusing on Jesus and directing your thoughts towards Him frees us from a self-defeating mindset and negative emotions. You cannot prevent bad things from happening, but you can protect your heart from becoming cynical, cold, and pessimistic.
Instead of reacting to life, learn to respond with the revelation that nothing can separate you from God’s perfect love and provision. Rather, align your heart with God's heart for you even before you see a tangible change in your situation or an answer to your prayer. With God's help, you can choose to think positively and cultivate healthy thoughts.
As you learn to live in accordance with the truth of your new identity in Christ, the Holy Spirit who dwells within propel you into new ways of thinking, speaking, and acting. It is about learning to see life through God's eyes and intentionally walking in the truth of who you are and what you have in Christ.
If you are being held captive by negative thoughts and emotions, pray and meditate on what is true, good, and beautiful in the gospel, knowing that they are already yours because of Jesus. The more you meditate on the good things God has freely given in Christ, the more you thrive in spiritual freedom and well-being.
When your mind is constantly on Jesus, no storms of adversity or sorrow can rob you of your joy, peace, and rest. According to the Apostle Paul, we should make it a habit to give thanks and express gratitude for everything God has and will continue to bless us. Gratitude enhances joy and deepens faith. It increases your capacity to receive more and live more fully in Christ.
What is God saying to me here and what must I do?
