I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.
John 10:11(NKJV)
In biblical times, the role of a shepherd is to protect his sheep from dangers and leads his flock to safe pastures. By claiming to be the Good Shepherd, Jesus is intentionally declaring that He is the only one who can truly serve and save us. In giving His life for us, Jesus opened the way for us to return to the embracing arms of the Father. We have nothing to fear or be afraid of when we have Him with us.
Learn to rest on our Lord’s assuring words:
My sheep hears my voice, and they follow me, they shall never perish, no one can snatch them out of my hand”
John 10:27 (NKJV)
Jesus is your Shepherd as well as your Saviour. He loves you enough to not just save you but be with you and for you in everything. Choose to follow Him in a personal and practical way. This takes humility and a willingness to let go of your selfish pursuits and prideful thoughts. In doing so, you will find freedom, security and, most importantly, rest.
Rest is the perfect blessing Christ offers to all who come to Him and put their trust in Him. This supernatural rest relieves you of the stress of striving to earn your salvation as well as the burden of fear of losing it. When you truly know that you belonged to Jesus, you have the faith to trust that He has not only done everything to save you but will also keep you saved for all eternity.
God’s reconciliation of the world to Him through Christ’s finished work on the cross is an irreversible fact. No one, including yourself, can take away your salvation or separate you from God's love (Romans 8:31-39). In other words, it is God’s love and Christ’s perseverance, not your ability or failure to remain faithful that preserve your salvation (1 Peter 1:4-5). You can have this certainty of salvation by choosing to follow Jesus. Following Him will empower you with continuing grace to truly live the abundant life that God has prepared for you in Christ.
