Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
Hebrews 1:1-2 (ESV)
The letter to the Hebrews describes how God has remarkably revealed Himself at various periods and through various channels. In these last days, however, God is revealing Himself through His Son. God purposefully pulls us out of the shadow of the Old Covenant and into the glorious light of the New Covenant through Jesus. This change in covenant transforms our relationship with God and how we approach Him.
The unique and perfect offering of Jesus forever perfected us before God. He has not only made us right with God, but He has also given us the ability to walk right with God. What a comfort to know that you have a privilege that patriarchs, prophets, and potentates of old could only dream of and hope for. The gospel, which was a shrouded mystery to them, has now been revealed for your discovery and transformation.
The gospel tells us that all we need to do is learn to rest in Christ and reach new heights of trust and hope. Because God has enthroned Christ as the appointed heir of all things, He is qualified to receive all God the Father has in store for Him, including you and me and everyone else.
This revelation provides you with a reason to rejoice. Knowing that you belong to and are in Christ enriches and completes your life. This is because if you believe Christ is the designated heir, you believe He will freely give you everything (Romans 8:32). In other words, you don't have to beg God to accomplish something He has already done for you in Christ. What we must understand is that God, in Christ, is always more willing to give than we are to ask and receive.
Every crisis is an opportunity to encounter Christ in a way that we cannot otherwise encounter. We will always find peace and trust in God if we remind ourselves of who He is to us and who we are to Him. It will put an end to every doubt, despair, and dread.
